In 2006 I built my 2nd upright bass. It has a very small body, (yes, I know know. Like a “backpacker”). The strangest things about it is actually the strings. They’re not bass strings at all, but nylon “weed whacker”strings in Gauges from 1.2mm to 4.0mm. They’re not exactly the best strings in the world, but they’re so incredibly smooth for sliding, light to touch and they only cost $15 for enough strin to do 12 basses (instead of more than $100 for just one set!). The nylon strings are why I call it a “Uku-bass, or Bass-a-lele”. It’s got a 2 transducer Underwood upright bass pickup. With and instrument pre-amp it sounds great!
